Therefore my heart is glad and my spirit rejoices; my body also rests securely. (Psalms 16:9 HCSB)

Today I’m really struggling with writing a post. My kids left to go to church camp in Florida. My husband left to go to work. I don’t really want to do any cleaning though I did. But, only because I know the kids aren’t here to make a mess in thirty minutes. I don’t want to do any cooking. All I want to do is work on polishing my book, watching TV or a movie, and snacking. It sounds like I’m being lazy, but really I am just longing for a little rest.
When school ended, it seemed like I should finally be getting a break, but it has been none stop till now. Is it terrible that I am sighing with relief? Finally, I can rest.
One of the best-loved passages on rest is found in Matthew 11. All the way at the end in verses 29-30 where Jesus calls everyone weary and burdened to find rest in him.
Jesus said, “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Just like anything is easier to do when you have the help of someone, Jesus is telling us to let him help us. He will help carry our burdens.
So, the next time you think you’re “in this alone” think again. He is there to help. All you have to do is ask.
Thank you, Lord, for this time of rest.
